3665 Computer Assisted Instruction (half year grade 7)
This course is required of all 7th grade students. It is designed to close any curricular achievement gaps existing in basic skills proficiencies among our incoming students. One half of the year will be devoted to skills associated with language arts literacy, while the other half-year will be dedicated to mathematics skills. Students will be offered the opportunity to test out of Computer Assisted Instruction. Information on this option will be available during scheduling.
3601 Connected Mathematics 7 ( grade 7)
This course is the study of introductory algebra, similarity, ratio, proportion and percent, positive and negative numbers, linear relationships, three dimensional measurement, probability, and expected values, describing variability and comparing groups. The course will engage students in problem solving and emphasize critical thinking. Students will use calculators, software and manipulatives to explore mathematical relationships. The course will prepare students for NJ ASK7.
3602 Connected Mathematics 8 (grade 8)
This course will emphasize problem solving and critical thinking. Topics to be studied include linear and inverse variation, Pythagorean Theorem, exponential relationships, quadratic relationships, symmetry and transformations, making sense of symbols, linear systems and inequalities, and data and statistics. Students will use calculators, software and manipulatives to explore mathematical relationships. The course will prepare students for NJ ASK8.
3050 Accelerated Connected Math 7-8 (grade 7)
This course will be offered to highly talented math students who meet placement requirements via NJ ASK-5 score, teacher recommendation, classroom grades, and district administered CMP2 6th grade midyear exam. Students in this course will proceed to 8th grade Algebra I, with the goal of Calculus as a senior. Sixth grade teachers will participate in identification of students. Course content will include Connected Mathematics 7 and Connected Mathematics 8 concepts. This course will be fast paced and challenging.
3040 Algebra I (grade 8)
Algebra I involves the study of the real number system and its properties. It bridges the gap between the concrete ideas of arithmetic and the abstract ideas of higher mathematics. Algebra I includes study of equations and inequalities, operations with real numbers, algebraic expressions, functions and relations, quadratic equations, and irrational expressions. Problem solving will be incorporated throughout the course. Graphing calculators will be used in the analysis of real world data.
3640 Reinforcement Mathematics (grade 7)
Students placed in this class have the opportunity to become more proficient in mathematical operations and problem solving to be successful on the NJ ASK7. Reinforcement Mathematics is a required course for students who have mathematics standardized test scores significantly below grade level. Sixth grade teachers are also instrumental in recommending students for placement in Reinforcement Mathematics.
3650 Reinforcement Mathematics (grade 8)
This course is required for eighth grade students who are identified as "at risk" of failing the NJ ASK8. The development of problem solving skills is emphasized in the following areas: number sense, concepts and application; spatial sense and geometry; data analysis, probability, statistics, and discrete mathematics; patterns, functions, and algebra. The course will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the students.
