    We used an NPR podcast from 2015 (an interview with Richard Rothstein) to delve deeply into the formation of the ghetto.  To that end, we listened to several excerpts (that are located below).  We were able to view Thanks Obama, for racism. (for the do now)

     

    On Tuesday we were able to listen to question 1.

    On Wednesday we were able to listen to questions 2-4.

    On Friday we finished questions 5,6 and 8.

    We continued our discussion of redlining and the many ways northern segregation happened.  We began by viewing a video (on google classroom - the one that begins with Chris Rock), and then beginning the "A Place to Become" assignment.  All docs and videos are on google classroom.

    We began our analysis of the origins of the urban crisis.  To that end, we viewed several primary sources in the classwork packet. The Chris Rock video from NPR (from the classwork packet) is located here.  (Warning: single incidence of explicit language).  The primary sources are:

    We began our analysis of the Red Scare of the 1950s and the Hollywood Ten.  To that end, we viewed a Sound Smart video about the Red Scare and about McCarthyism.  We then  read a Dalton Trumbo handout.  We also viewed a short video about Dalton Trumbo (no video notes packet for this one) .  We were then able to view the first 14 minutes of the film Trumbo

    We viewed 1950s Housewife for the Do Now.  We then completed a 1950s Happy Housewife activity.  To complete this lesson, you will need this PowerPoint and this graphic organizer.

     

    ON WEDNESDAY WE VIEWED THE DO NOW VIDEO, A PPT SLIDE ABOUT THE SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS PLACED ON HOUSEWIVES IN THE 1950S. WE ALSO VIEWED THE FIRST 6 SLIDES OF THE ABOVE POWERPOINT.
