The Battle of the Food Banks is an annual tradition that uses the Warren Hills vs. Hackettstown rivalry for a good cause - to see who can collect more food donations for local food banks.
Last year, in its inaugural year, the schools combined to collect almost 800 items and together vowed to aim to collect over 1000 items in 2020. Even with the challenges presented by Covid 19, the schools persisted and when Hackettstown had to close school for two weeks, the Warren Hills student council pledged to not only still aim to hit the 1000 item goal, but to split all donations amongst the Washington and Hackettstown food banks so that our rival would still benefit from this great cause.
The schools combined to collect a total of 1177, setting a new record for this event. In the spirit of good sportsmanship, Warren Hills has decided to forgo claiming the trophy this year, and instead considers this year's “winners” to be both of the local food banks who will each be receiving 588 items, just in time for Thanksgiving.
